Strength & Recovery Through Physical Therapy

Whether you’re an injured athlete, a secretary with aches and pains, retired and having

chronic joint pain and stiffness, or a firefighter who has been injured on the job—

physical therapy is meant to get you back on the field, back on the job, and back doing

the things that you enjoy.

Physical therapists evaluate and treat individuals with a wide variety of medical

conditions that impact their ability to move and perform functional activities. With their

education based largely on the science of movement, physical therapists are experts in

movement dysfunction and injury prevention. They work to restore optimal physical

function and wellness.

Here at Pocono Functional Rehabilitation, we believe there is no “one-size-fits-all”

approach to healing. That’s why we implement a hands-on, individualized approach to

your evaluation and treatment. With your specific needs in mind, we can restore

movement, improve function, and help you to get back to doing what you love.

Core Strengthening & Corrective Exercise

At Pocono Functional Rehabilitation, we recognize that the root of many problems can be found in poor posture and muscle imbalance. We utilize core strengthening techniques, postural correction, and mobilization to help patients strengthen and learn to use muscle groups correctly. When small muscles are used incorrectly it causes strain on those muscle groups which can lead to pain and poor posture. Give us a call to learn more about our techniques.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • When should I start Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy can benefit a wide variety of conditions, and you can seek out therapy at any

time. Pain, aches, and soreness don’t have to be a part of your daily life, and can often be

alleviated through PT. If you feel you could benefit from understanding your specific injury/

condition more thoroughly, and are motivated to feel better and stronger, call a physical

    therapist today!

  • How should I dress?

You should wear loose fitting clothing so you can expose the area that we will be evaluating and treating. For example, if you have a knee problem, it is best to wear shorts. For a shoulder problem, a tank top is a good choice, and for low back problems, wear a loose fitting shirt and pants, again so we can perform a thorough examination.

  • What will happen at my first visit?

During your first visit you can expect the following:

    • Arrive at your appointment with your paperwork completed or come in 15 minutes earlier to fill out your paperwork at the office

    • You will provide us with your referral for physical therapy if you have one. If you don't

have a referral, let us know when you schedule your first visit with us (note - a referral is

    not always needed).

    • We will copy your insurance card.

    • You will be seen for the initial evaluation by the therapist.

The therapist will discuss the following:

    1 Your medical history.

    2 Your current problems/complaints.

3 Pain intensity, what aggravates and eases the problem.

4 How this is impacting your daily activities or your functional limitations.

5 Your goals with physical therapy.

The therapist will then perform the objective examination which may include some of the

following: Palpation, Range of Motion(ROM), Muscle Testing, Neurological Screening,

    Orthopedic Screening, Postural Assessment

The therapist will then formulate a list of problems you are having, and how to treat those problems. A plan is subsequently developed with the patient's input. This includes how many times you should see the therapist per week, how many weeks you

will need therapy, home programs, patient education, short-term/long-term goals,

and what is expected after discharge from therapy. This plan is created with input

from you, your therapist, and your doctor.
